Shared Whiteboard for Online Drawing

A shared whiteboard allows a group of people to work on a shared drawing surface across the internet, much in the same manner a whiteboard functions in a conference room in the business world. Whiteboards are used to visualize ideas and make it easier to understand complex information, with everyone being able to see what is drawn, or take part by drawing themselves.

PeerAware lets you create a shared workspace for connecting online with friends and co-workers. Once connected you can chat and work on the whiteboard. Any user can start a new session, and multiple users can join and contribute to the drawing in real-time.

Start a shared whiteboard session

Shared whiteboard sessions

To start a shared whiteboard session in PeerAware is easy: Connect to a workspace, click the whiteboard tab, then "Start Session" and start drawing. Your drawing is listed in the whiteboard sessions list, and can be seen by all connected workspace members. The list is updated when you press the "Start Session" button and once every minute afterwards. This ensures that members connecting to the workspace after you started your session are able to discover your shared whiteboard. To join your session they simply click your name in the list and the latest version of your diagram is syncronized.

Draw with shapes

The PeerAware online whiteboard tool comes with more than 100 predefined shapes, making it easy to draw professional looking diagrams. Shapes may be selected, drawn, re-sized and deleted, have color, shadow and gradient set, text  per shape along with font, font-size and color and a number of other properties. Choose a shape from the palette and draw by clicking and dragging in the drawing area.

Real-time collaboration

While working on the whiteboard, any change you make are visible to all participants, ensuring that everyone sees the same version of the whiteboard diagram. A small version of the chat window is displayed at the bottom of the workspace window and can be used for discussing the modifications you are making.

Open source

The online whiteboard in PeerAware is open source software and can be modified by anyone. If you have changes you would like to incorporate, you should know that contributions are always appreciated.

More than a whiteboard

PeerAware is a p2p collaboration platform and includes support for sharing, searching and browsing for documents. Shared documents are indexed by content, making it possible to find your word, excel and powerpoint documents, pdf files and more. Search requests are distributed to all connected workspace members, and everyone contribute with their top results. After you receive the search results, you can download the documents, or choose to browse shared files using the result set as a starting point.
